On Sunday 18 October, the estate around the Ennemaborg in Midwolda becomes the setting for a Mushroom Festival (Paddenstoelenfestival). Het Groninger Landschap organises the day from 11:00 to 17:00 at Bezoekerscentrum Ennemaborg, Hoofdweg 96. For the northern region it is the last day of the autumn holiday.

According to the organiser, more than 250 species of mushroom are recorded on the estate every year. During the festival, visitors can look for the scarlet caterpillarclub (rupsendoder), the parasitic bolete (kostgangersboleet), the giant polypore (reuzenzwam) and the blotebillenzwam, among others.

There is more for children than walking. The programme lists spotting mushrooms, picking apart owl pellets and baking bread. Volunteers from Het Groninger Landschap run the festival, with support from Stichting de Versterking.

The borg itself dates from the fourteenth century and was thoroughly rebuilt in the eighteenth century. When Het Groninger Landschap received the borg and the estate in 1965, both were badly neglected, according to the manager. The present grounds have a long drive and are also grazed by Konik horses.

Admission to the festival is free, but some activities cost money. A stamp card at €3.50 entitles you, according to the organiser, to bake a bread roll, a lemonade and a spin on the Wheel of Fortune. Beschermers (supporters) pay €2.50 for that card with their pass.

The estate page says that dogs are welcome on a lead and that there is a car park opposite the borg.
