Doorwerth Castle: between river and Veluwe
A walk past the kitchen garden and the Duno estate makes a castle visit bigger than the rooms alone.

According to its owner, Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen, Doorwerth Castle lies between the Nederrijn and the southern Veluwe. In its furnished rooms the castle shows how residents once lived. Outside the walls, visitors can also walk around the building and through the kitchen garden.
According to GLK, a longer walk leads to the Duno estate, where woodland, hills and floodplains alternate. This lets a castle visit be combined with the surrounding landscape.
For October, the castle’s site lists a game in which children hunt for apples throughout the building. A walk about the heavy fighting around the castle in the Second World War is also in the programme, running until 19 October.
Doorwerth Castle is normally open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:00. Monday 19 October is an extra opening day, also from 11:00 to 17:00. The visiting address is Fonteinallee 2b.
A ticket costs €15 for adults and €7.50 for children aged four to eighteen inclusive. Museumkaart holders have free admission during regular opening hours. GLK recommends booking a time slot online to be sure of getting in.
Parking is free, although a fee may apply during events. Doorwerth can be reached by bus from Arnhem station.
