On 31 October and 1 November 2026, Vesting Bourtange is the setting for Magisch Samhain. The organisers announce acts, fire shows, stilt walkers and fantasy figures; opening hours are 11:00 to 22:00 on Saturday and 11:00 to 18:00 on Sunday.

There are stalls throughout the fortress, and visitors can have their fortune told or make a wish at the wishing tree.

The name refers to Samhain, which the organisers describe as a Celtic festival marking the transition from summer to winter.

On Saturday, there is a lower box-office price for anyone wearing at least two costume pieces.

Saturday is the longest festival day, from 11:00 to 22:00; on Sunday the festival closes at 18:00.
