Fantasy Fest in Rijswijk: stories, costumes and a Kids Corner
Editors ·
This weekend De Broodfabriek becomes a fantasy market. For families, storytelling and face painting sit alongside costumes that may have a darker edge.

Fantasy Fest takes place at De Broodfabriek in Rijswijk on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October 2026. The event covers fantasy, cosplay and related genres, with a market, performances and workshops. For families, the mix of storytelling and costumed visitors is central to planning a visit.
Traders from the Netherlands and abroad offer clothing, accessories, art and handmade goods. According to a report based on De Broodfabriek’s press release, this edition has a Halloween theme, “Twisted Trick or Treat”. That suggests an atmosphere, but does not tell you how frightening a child may find the costumes.
There is a separate storytelling room in the programme. The timetable lists Project Epos on Saturday and Abe de verteller on Sunday; publisher Uitgeverij Zilverspoor is scheduled for both days. Stories therefore have a place of their own alongside the market.

The organiser says Fantasy Fest is suitable for children and announces a Kids Corner where they can have their faces painted. Its FAQ also warns that many visitors wear costumes and that the organiser cannot control them. For younger children, that is more useful guidance than a blanket age promise.
The timetable includes bookbinding and pastel workshops for those who want to make something. In the Arena, Bataille and Zwaard & Steen are scheduled for shows and demonstrations. The programme offers a choice, although it does not state which ages the workshops suit.
The festival opens at noon on both days. Bakkerij 1 closes at 8.30 pm and Bakkerij 2 at 7 pm. A day ticket costs €18 for adults and €9 for children aged 7 to 12; children aged 6 and under enter free. De Broodfabriek is at Volmerlaan 12, about a seven-minute walk from Rijswijk station. Check the organiser’s current information before travelling.
