Climbing Deventer’s tower during the school break? Check Sundays

Editors ·

The Lebuinuskerk lists tower hours from Monday to Saturday for 12–25 October. Deventer is in the Northern school-holiday region; the church itself has more limited opening days, and the tower is closed on Sundays.

Anyone planning a climb during the autumn break should check the calendar first. For 12–25 October, the Lebuinuskerk lists tower opening from Monday to Saturday, 12:00 to 16:00. Deventer is in the Northern region, where the autumn holiday runs from 10 to 18 October.

For visitors from the Central and Southern regions, the holiday begins on 17 October and ends on 25 October. The tower schedule appears to cover those dates, but the church says it is open only Wednesday to Saturday in September and October. It is therefore unclear whether the tower can be visited on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Sunday is not a climbing day: the church says it holds a service and is closed to visitors. The calendar does not simply mean “open every holiday day”; the tower has its own schedule and limits.

During the season, a ticket costs €4.50 for adults and €3 for visitors aged 17 and under. The church says booking is not necessary. Its website does not specify a minimum age, so no firm age limit can be stated.

Weather can also stop the climb. The tower closes during storms, thunderstorms or temperatures above 30°C. The church also says the tower is accessible only when the church is open.

The tower belongs to the Lebuinuskerk in Deventer. Check current opening hours with the church before setting out, especially for Monday and Tuesday: the general tower schedule and the building’s opening days do not clearly align.
