After dark, Almere walks a loop around the Weerwater
Editors ·
Alluminous lights up the Weerwater through 18 October. The free route is about 5.5 kilometres long; the organisers recommend walking clockwise for the best experience.

By day, the Weerwater is a lake in the middle of Almere; after 19:00, its shores become a route through light art. Alluminous runs from 9 to 18 October, daily from 19:00 to 22:30. Outside those hours, the artworks are switched off.
The loop is about 5.5 kilometres and takes roughly two hours, according to the organisers. There is no official start or finish, but walking clockwise is said to offer the best experience. During the festival it is accessible only on foot, and the route is wheelchair accessible.
The programme includes titles such as Aura Farming, Bright Camouflage, Lichtvis, PING, Synthetic Woods and Watercolour. The programme page lists eighteen titles; the exact number of individual artworks is uncertain because some titles may refer to elements or programmes.

This is Alluminous’s fifth edition, coinciding with Almere’s 50th anniversary. The press release says the festival was commissioned by the Almere City Centre Business Association. A new three-year programme connects technology, art and light.
You can start at the Esplanade, about a ten-minute walk from Almere Centrum station, or at the ’t Oor bus station on the south side. Information desks are at the Esplanade and Hortus. A shuttle boat leaves the Esplanade at 19:00, 20:00, 21:00 and 22:00; return times are not clearly stated.
The route is free. Boat tickets are sold at the information desks, with card payment only: €5 for ages 12 and up, €2.50 for children aged 3 to 11, and free for children up to age two. The Commons photos show the lake and skyline, not the 2026 light artworks.
